Phase One - Tearoom

Cherry Tree Nursery is a very special place and registered charity. Based on horticulture they provide meaningful occupation aiming to restore well-being to people with mental illness. Through a three phase plan, the nursery needed to replace their modular buildings. Phase One incorporates a new tearoom, kitchen and toilets.

Cherry Tree Nursery Straw Bale Tearoom

DCRS Construction’s team overcome logistic challenges including the demolition of modular buildings and installation of a temporary unit outside working hours in just two days.  With limited space it was important that the nursery could still operate, take deliveries and receive visitors.

The Build

We were able to keep costs down compared with a conventional build, and in addition almost double the existing building space being inhabited.  Designed along with Adam Slatter Timber Framers, this is a timber framed, straw bale infill building with sheep's wool in the floor providing insulation, underfloor heating and sun pipes to let light into the building.

The new tearoom was officially opened on 12th March 2012 by HRH The Princess Royal
